DÈ TH' ANNS A' MHÒD?

Dè th' anns a' Mhòd?

What is the Mòd?

The Mòd is a festival of Gaelic language, music and culture.

The Glasgow Local Mòd gives young people from across the city and beyond the opportunity to come together and perform in a range of competitions including Gaelic music, song, storytelling and poetry.

Local Mòds run throughout Scotland across the year, with the Royal National Mòd being held in October each year.

The Royal National Mòd is organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach and you can find more information about it on their website.

Carson?

Why enter?

We’d love to have as many competitors as possible - all are welcome!

Taking part in the Mòd:

  • encourages children to learn Gaelic songs, poems, stories or traditional instrumental pieces
  • is a fantastic opportunity to build Gaelic language skills
  • can help children gain confidence by performing for an audience
  • is a great fun social event!

Mòds are an important part of Gaelic culture, and help support ongoing efforts to maintain Gaelic as a living language.

If your child is planning to enter the Royal National Mòd, the Glasgow Local Mòd is great practice and an opportunity to get valuable feedback.
